What does Chimney Repair Involve?
Most chimney problems show up indoors before anyone looks at the stack. Damp patches on the chimney breast, staining on upstairs ceilings, water in the fireplace after rain and bits of mortar appearing in the grate all point to the chimney letting water in.

Flashing deserves a special mention, because a large share of the leaks blamed on chimneys are actually failed lead work where the stack meets the tiles. We check both before quoting, so you don't pay for repointing when the real problem is a fold of lead that's lifted.
Can an old chimney be repaired?
Almost always, yes. Most of the chimneys we work on are on pre-1980s brick, and plenty are a century older than that. Repointing with an appropriate mortar, new flashing and a cap will typically give an old stack decades more life.
The exceptions are stacks that have moved or cracked structurally, where a partial rebuild down to sound brickwork is safer and often cheaper than repeated patching, and we'll tell you honestly which side of that line yours falls on.
